A couple from China has invented a lightning rod that is an improvement from the one invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1752. Their invention, called SLE, is connected to the top of tall buildings. It carries lightning currents, thereby reducing the possibility of damage caused by lightning. The SLE can reduce lightning discharge more effectively than the rod invented by Benjamin Franklin. It can also handle a bigger lightning strike. However, the cost of the SLE is much higher than that of the traditional rod.
